Fabric decides how an abaya drapes, whether it stays opaque in sunlight, and how it feels in Dubai heat. Habayeb uses nida, viscose and crepe, silk, lace, jacquard, and velvet across the abaya collection. This article is the longer fabric hub; a shorter overview is in the abaya fabric guide.
Nida
Nida is the everyday fabric in most Habayeb designs, including embroidered farasha and stone pieces. It is light, typically opaque, and easy to wear over indoor clothes. Choose nida for work, mall visits, and travel. Many plain abayas and embroidery abayas are nida.
Viscose, crepe, and similar weaves
Viscose and crepe hang with a slightly heavier drape than nida. They suit a structured look and resist clinging. If a product title names crepe or viscose, expect a smoother, less airy hand than nida. Good for air-conditioned spaces where you want the abaya to keep its line.
Silk
Silk reads as occasion wear: sheen, fluid movement, and a cooler hand. Habayeb silk pieces include floral print silk abayas with lace. Silk needs gentler care (cool clean, no harsh wringing). Use silk when the event is formal or you want a lighter evening layer. See luxury abayas for occasions.
Lace, jacquard, velvet
Lace and dantel add open pattern; they often sit as overlay or cuff detail rather than the only layer. Jacquard has a woven pattern and more body — common on open styles. Velvet is seasonal and evening-weight. Mix these with a plain nida piece in the same wardrobe rather than wearing texture every day.
Care
- Nida and crepe: gentle machine or hand wash, low heat, hang to dry.
- Silk and lace: cool hand wash or specialist clean; do not wring embroidery or stones.
- Stone and heavy embroidery: turn inside out; avoid rubbing the decorated face.
- Steam rather than a hot iron on decorated panels.
Match fabric to use
Daily Dubai wear: nida or crepe. Evening: silk, lace, or jacquard. For stones and dense embroidery, pick a stable base (usually nida) so the decoration sits flat. If you want a fabric that is not on the product, order a custom design and name the fabric in the message field.
